Q & A WITH

SACHI

SACHI?…please share its origin

Will had a spiritual awakening in the late 90’s deep in the Kirishima Mountains in South Japan. SACHI was the name his Jujutsu-i gave to him, so we just ran with that.

Highlights to date

Having Diplo play our songs out on his radio show was crazy. We’ve been to LA a couple times for writing trips, and LA is always a trip. We played this show in Wellington called Homegrown, which was ridiculous. The vibe was so good. It was in this tent, which was like two thousand people over capacity. There were like five thousand people in this three thousand person tent, all dancing with their friends and singing the words.

SACHI travel essentials when on tour?

A UE Boom for the hotel, eye masks, heaps of H2O and a sleep tea before bed.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing instead?

Something else creative, film or fashion or art or something. Advertising.

If you could give advice for aspiring artists out there, what would it be?

Write, write, write. Make music that you like. If you are a good person, people will want to help you.

Who or what was your musical influence growing up and how did that influence you as an artist?

A lot of rock music. Both of our dads love rock, like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin and U2. When we were playing in bands, we use to listen to a lot of Green Day, All Time Low, shit like that. Then when the early Flume and Chet Faker stuff started to pop, we found that and kind of started playing with production. I think in terms of influence, we just admire the quality of the music and the projects that artists we love put out, and that inspires us to achieve that level of creativity and artistry.

If you could be a super hero or have a magic ability, what would it be and why?

Spider Man, he’s the raddest superhero out. Will wants to be Iron Man because he can do it all.

If you could collaborate with any musician past or present who would it be?

Michael Jackson.

What is your impression of North Queensland and its emerging Festival scene?

The line-up for TGIG is so fire. We’re real excited to perform. A lot of our friends and people we have collaborated with are on the line-up, so we have a few goodies for you guys. We’ve never been to North Queensland, so super excited to make it up!

If you could time warp yourself to any point in history when would it be and who would you hang out with?

The 70s, in New York, with Andy Warhol, or Ancient Greece with Plato.

What's your favourite comedy YouTube clip?

THIS ONE! it's a classic :D
